What We Believe About…

The Bible

We believe the Bible is the inspired word of God and that it contains no errors in the original manuscripts and is preserved by God for us. We believe that the Bible is the final authority for all matters of faith, truth, morality, and Christian living. Isaiah 40:8; Matthew 5:18; 24:35; Romans 15:4

God

We believe in God the Father Almighty, Creator of all things visible and invisible. We believe God created the universe by His Power and Word. We believe that God is all-knowing, all-powerful and ever present. Genesis 1:1; Matthew 5:16; Hebrews 11:3; James 1:17

God the Son

We believe in Jesus Christ, the Son of God, the eternal Word, the one and only Savior. He was conceived of the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. We believe Jesus was both God and man, that He was crucified for our sins, and was bodily raised from the dead. He then ascended to His Father’s side where He is head of the church and intercedes for believers. He will return in victory to rule forever.  John 1:1,14, 29; 3:16; Philippians 2:6-11; Colossians 1:15-19; 1 John 1:9

The Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of God and has all the divine characteristics. We believe the ministry of the Holy Spirit is to apply the saving work of Christ. He convicts men of sin, of righteousness and of judgement. He regenerates their heart and then indwells them when they believe and are baptized. His ongoing work is to lead, guide and empower the believer for godly living and service.

Salvation

We believe that salvation is the gift of God brought to man by grace and received by personal faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, whose precious blood was shed on the cross at Calvary for the forgiveness of our sins (Ephesians 2:8-10John 1:12Ephesians 1:7; 1 Peter 1:18-19).
The Biblical pattern for expressing one’s personal decision to place their faith in Jesus Christ and turn from sin involves water baptism by immersion, which re-enacts the death, burial and resurrection of Christ. Baptism is the means by which we entrust and commit ourselves to God through Christ in a visible moment.

Communion

We take communion every week, following the example of the early church. It provides us a reminder of the foundational teachings of our faith that’s related to the death, resurrection, ascension, and promised return of Jesus. Acts 2:42; 1 Corinthians 11:23-26

The Church

Scripture commands believers to gather together in local congregations for the scriptural teaching, fellowship, prayer, mutual encouragement, worship of God, and disciple-making.

We believe that the Elders of the church are the overseers of its affairs and the shepherds of its members. They are responsible for the oversight, instruction, edification, discipline, and restoration of church members.

The Bible instructs church members to meet together regularly for fellowship, worship, teaching, and the Lord’s Supper. We are to serve one another, love one another and encourage one another. Each member is to submit to the authority of the Elders, support the church financially and work together to fulfill the Great Commission.

Hebrews 10:25; 1 Peter 5:1-4; Titus 1:9, 2:1-15; Hebrews 13:7; 1 Peter 4:10; John 13:34-35; 1 Thessalonians 5:11; Hebrews 13:17; Matthew 28:18-20

Who We Are

We are a non-denominational church. We accept the Holy Bible as the final authority in all matters of faith and practice. Sandusky Avenue Christian Church is a Christian church affiliated with the Restoration Movement. The primary purpose of the Restoration Movement is: The Evangelism of the World. Sandusky is one of a growing number of congregations desiring to be simply Christians.

We have no creed but Christ. We believe Jesus is the one and only Son of God who died for our sins and arose from the dead. … the Bible is the inspired word of God, a lamp unto our feet and a light unto our path. …that every person has worth as a creation of God, but that all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. …that forgiveness of sins and the promise of eternal life are available to all who trust Christ as Savior and Lord. …those who accept Christ must repent of sin, confess their faith and be baptized into Him. …that the church is the body of Christ on earth, empowered by the Holy Spirit exists to save the lost and equip the saints.
